Spedra is a prescription-only medication used to treat erectile dysfunction. It’s one of the faster-acting erectile dysfunction treatments available.

Spedra contains avanafil, an active ingredient that enhances blood flow to the penis when you're sexually aroused. This improved circulation helps you achieve and maintain firmer, longer-lasting erections.

Your response to Spedra may be affected by certain factors. Eating a heavy meal before taking the medicine might delay its effects or reduce its effectiveness. The same applies if you drink 1-2 units of alcohol. One unit equals a single measure (25ml) of spirit, a small glass (125ml) of wine, or half a pint of average-strength beer, lager, or cider.

How long is Spedra effective for?
How long does Spedra last? It can be up to 4 hours after taking the medicine.
How to take Spedra
For the best results:
You should take Spedra about 30 minutes (50 mg) or approximately 15 to 30 minutes (100 mg and 200 mg) before you have sexual intercourse. Take one tablet approximately one hour before sexual activity
Take on an empty stomach
Do not exceed one tablet within a 24-hour period
Be aware that alcohol consumption may reduce effectiveness
Avoid grapefruit juice for 24 hours before taking Spedra
Do not combine with other erectile dysfunction medications
Remember that Spedra will only help you to get an erection if you are sexually stimulated.
Spedra side effects
As with any medication, you might experience some side effects with Spedra pills. These can include:
Facial flushing
Headache
Light-headedness
Nasal or sinus congestion
Indigestion
Palpitations (racing heartbeat)
Blurred vision

Based on this information, you may be prescribed a lower dose (50mg) or higher dose (200mg).
Changing the dosage affects the likelihood of side effects but does not change how quickly Spedra works or how long its effects last. Higher doses typically carry an increased risk of experiencing side effects.
You'll need to be aware of potential interactions between Spedra and other medications:
If you take alpha-blockers (such as doxazosin or tamsulosin), ensure there's at least a 6-hour gap between these medications and Spedra.
Spedra isn't suitable if you're taking nicorandil or nitrates (like GTN spray or isosorbide mononitrate tablets for angina).
Recreational drugs can interact dangerously with Spedra, including amyl nitrite, cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy) and amphetamines.
During your consultation, you must tell us about all prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and any recreational substances you use so we can determine if Spedra is safe for you.
