Logynon Contraceptive Pill
Logynon is a tri-phasic combined contraceptive pill that's up to 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when taken correctly.
How to use it:
Take it every day for 21 days, then take a 7-day break.
You'll need to have your blood pressure and weight checked once a year.
How to take Logynon
Start with the first pill marked "Start" on your pack, this will be an active pill. Take one pill every day, in order, for 21 days. After that, take a 7-day break. During this break, you'll probably have some withdrawal bleeding.
When the 7 days are up, go ahead and start your next pack, even if you're still bleeding. Try not to take the pills out of order because that can mess with how well they work. It's a good idea to take your pill around the same time every day to keep things on track. Curious if you can take Logynon without a break? Some people do, but check with your clinician first to see if that's right for you.
How Logynon works
Logynon contraceptive pills are a combination of two hormones: levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol. These hormones prevent ovulation and make it harder for sperm to reach an egg. Because Logynon is a tri-phasic pill, this means the hormone levels change throughout your 21-day cycle.
To get the most out of your pills, take the pills in the correct order. After 21 days, take a break for 7 days, and then you can start your next pack. Consistency is key to staying on track.
How effective is Logynon?
When taken correctly, Logynon birth control pill is over 99% effective.
But if you forget pills or take them out of order, about 9 in 100 women may get pregnant.
If you're vomiting or have severe diarrhoea, the pill may not work correctly. Keep taking it as usual, but use condoms while you're unwell and for seven days afterwards. If symptoms last over 24 hours, treat it like a missed pill. Speak to a clinician for further information.
Only start taking Logynon if you're sure you're not pregnant.
How long after taking Logynon are you protected?
If you start Logynon between days 1–5 of your period, you're protected straight away. If your cycle is shorter or irregular, it's good to double-check with your clinician. If you start taking your birth control later, make sure to use condoms for the first 7 days. Talking to your clinician is always a good idea if you're not sure about anything.
Does Logynon stop your period?
Not always — during the 7-day break, you’ll usually have a withdrawal bleed. But some women find their periods become lighter or more regular.
Does Logynon cause weight gain?
Many people wonder whether Logynon can cause weight gain. While studies haven't found a clear connection between the Logynon pill and weight gain, everyone’s body is a bit different. Some women may notice slight changes in appetite or experience fluid retention, but most people don’t see any significant weight changes while on the pill.
If you're concerned about your weight or body changes while taking Logynon birth control pills, it's a good idea to check in with a clinician.
Logynon pill side effects
