Unlike Viagra, Levitra isn’t available in an over-the-counter version.
For more information on the similarities and differences between Levitra and Viagra, read our guide Levitra and Viagra compared.
Levitra comes in 5mg, 10mg, or 20mg.
All three dosages of Levitra have the same onset time (25 minutes to an hour) and duration of effect (4-5 hours).
Increasing or lowering your dosage of Levitra will not affect how long the medication lasts.
The reason there are different dosages is so that side effects can be managed.
Which dose of Levitra do I need?
It is important to take the dose of Levitra you have been prescribed. If you are prone to experiencing side effects or have health conditions, your GP may prescribe you the lowest dose of 5mg.
The regular starting dosage for Levitra is 10mg. If you are eligible and have no contraindications, this may be prescribed.
The 20mg dosage is usually prescribed to males who can’t maintain or achieve an erection on the 10mg starting dosage and don’t experience side effects. Again, this must be prescribed by your GP.
For more information on Levitra dosages and who can and can’t take the medication, read our guide Levitra (Vardenafil) - The Complete Guide.
Can you buy Levitra over the counter?
No. Levitra can only be accessed with an NHS or private GP prescription.
If you are looking for an over the counter erectile dysfunction medication, you may need to look at alternative erectile dysfunction medications such as Viagra Connect or Cialis Together.
You can speak to a GP or Pharmacist or start a free online consultation to see which ED medications you are eligible for.
How to access 20mg of Levitra?
20mg of Levitra can only be prescribed by a GP.
20mg is the highest dosage of Levitra available, and it will usually only be prescribed to eligible males if they cannot maintain or achieve an erection on 10mg of Levitra and experience no side effects.
The higher your dosage of erectile dysfunction medication, the greater your risk of experiencing side effects.
How common is it to experience side effects?
Levitra has proven effective in 70% of men; most men won’t experience any side effects.
Less than 12% of individuals using vardenafil (the active ingredient in Levitra) experience side effects, most considered non-serious.
A list of all the possible side effects can be found on the patient information leaflet.
If you have any concerns about any side effects or contraindications, it's best to discuss these with your GP.
