Take Control of Your Heart Health with Digital Tools

A digital-first approach to heart health screening at home could increase the number of patients testing for cardiovascular disease (CVD), as well as detecting and acting on high cholesterol, by up to 57%. That’s down to Pharmacy2U’s Healthy Heart Study in conjunction with PocDoc, which is giving people control of their heart health.

In this article, we’ll take you through the background of this initiative, as well as the results and White Paper of that initial study from December 2024, before highlighting the success of the follow-up Healthy Hearts Programme in December 2025.

Why focus on heart health?

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) contributes to over a quarter of all premature deaths annually, with over 7.6 million people in the UK having a heart-related condition.

To tackle these alarming numbers, Pharmacy2U has built the UK’s only digital end-to-end pathway that promotes, supports, and contributes to CVD prevention.

The key results of the Healthy Heart Study

  • 3,871 volunteers signed up to the process within two weeks of launch, and more than a quarter (28%) had never had their cholesterol levels checked before

  • 72% of volunteers found the process more convenient than visiting their GP

  • 77% of volunteers were more inclined to make healthy lifestyle changes following participation

  • 62% of volunteers had told family and friends about the programme

  • 88% of volunteers said they’d opt for this approach in the future if the NHS offered it

  • 46% of volunteers who completed the end-of-study survey self-reported improved cholesterol after 8 weeks of tailored digital support

What did the Healthy Heart Study involve?

Volunteers were sent a PocDoc Healthy Heart at-home testing kit, which is linked to an app that displays the test results. After the initial test, they were offered a pharmacist consultation to discuss the results and any actions or lifestyle changes that could help improve their results and their health.

All volunteers then received a personalised 8-week email programme, covering five themes – Diet and Exercise, Vitamins and Supplements, Weight Management, Smoking Cessation, and Home Monitoring.

After 8 weeks, volunteers received a second PocDoc Healthy Heart at-home testing kit to see if the changes they had made resulted in a positive impact on their health. This was followed by a second pharmacist consultation to review their progress and next steps, before the volunteers’ data was analysed and they were asked to complete a post-study survey.

How many people took part?

3,881 people completed the first test in week one, and 2,657 people completed the second test in week eight.

What does the Healthy Heart Study mean for healthcare?

The Healthy Heart Study proves that Pharmacy2U has created a ground-breaking, tried-and-tested digital approach to cardiovascular disease prevention. It also confirms that is ready to be scaled nationwide to help tackle the UK’s CVD crisis and that the approach can be applied to other conditions in the future.

To further emphasise how effective it has been for participants, we thought we’d let the numbers speak for themselves.
