The suitability and expected benefits of treatment vary between individuals. Clinical research has demonstrated that the active ingredient (orforglipron) used in Foundayo can support weight loss in adults with obesity when compared with a placebo (a tablet with no active medicine) and when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
In ATTAIN-1, adults with obesity, or overweight and at least one weight-related condition, without type 2 diabetes, received orforglipron or placebo alongside diet and physical-activity support. At week 72, average body-weight reductions were 7.8%, 9.3% and 12.4% across the three active-dose groups, compared with 0.9% for placebo. The 12.4% result related to the highest dose studied. These are group averages and do not predict an individual result.
The amount of weight an individual may lose cannot be predicted or guaranteed. Your suitability for treatment, including the appropriate dose and whether this medicine is appropriate for you, should be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional as part of a consultation. Side effects may occur. Always read the Patient Information Leaflet.
At what dose does Foundayo start working?
Everyone responds differently to treatment, and there is no single dose that is right for everyone. Response varies between people. Treatment starts at a lower dose and is increased according to the recommended dosing schedule, with your clinician reviewing your response and how well you tolerate treatment.
Can I expect to lose weight quickly?
It's natural to want to see results as soon as possible, but it's important to remember that healthy, sustainable weight loss takes time. Everyone responds differently and the amount of weight you lose can vary depending on factors such us your individual circumstances, lifestyle and response to treatment.
However long it takes to notice weight loss, what's most important is making steady progress towards healthier lifestyle habits and maintaining those changes over time, such as:
Follow a balanced, nutritious diet that includes plenty of fruit, vegetables, whole grains and lean sources of protein
Stay physically active with regular exercise that fits into your daily routine
Get enough sleep and prioritise your overall wellbeing
Build healthy habits that feel realistic and sustainable for you
What if I’m not seeing the results I want?
Weight loss can vary from person to person, and it's normal that everyone's progress will be different. It's important to remember that while Foundayo can help support weight loss, it works best when used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, including healthy lifestyle measures such as those listed above.
If you believe your progress has slowed or the results are not what you expected, try to make long-term, sustainable changes, rather than setting short-term targets. If you're still concerned about your weight-loss journey or have questions about whether Foundayo is right for you, you should speak to your clinician, who will review your progress, discuss your concerns, and determine your next steps.
How can I track my progress?
There are several ways to track your progress while taking Foundayo, and weight is only one part of the picture. You may find it helpful to:
Weigh yourself regularly, such as once a week, under similar conditions each time
Monitor your BMI, which can help show changes in your weight over time
Track your waist size, and your associated waist-to-height measurement, as this can provide additional insight into changes in associated health risks
Keep track of healthy habits, such as your eating patterns and physical activity levels
Reflect on any changes to your overall wellbeing, such as your energy levels or ability to be more active
It's important to remember that neither weight, BMI nor waist size provides a complete picture of your health on their own. Looking at a range of measures can help you build a broader view of your progress over time. If you're unsure how to interpret your results or have concerns about your progress, speak to your clinician.
When do I move on to an ongoing dose?
There is no single ongoing (sometimes referred to as a maintenance dose) dose that is right for everyone. Your clinician will review your response, side effects, treatment goals and overall health, and decide whether you should remain on your current dose, change dose or stop treatment. Reaching a particular BMI does not automatically mean your treatment should change or stop.
Foundayo starts at 0.8 mg once daily. After at least 30 days, the dose may be increased to 2.5 mg once daily. After at least a further 30 days, the dose may be increased to 5.5 mg and then, where appropriate, to 9 mg, 14.5 mg and 17.2 mg, with at least 30 days at each dose. Further increases depend on treatment response and tolerability.
Just remember, you should not change your dose, stop treatment, restart treatment or switch treatment unless advised to by your clinician. A consultation does not guarantee that treatment will be continued, changed, restarted or prescribed. Your clinician will decide what is safe and appropriate for you.
Can I change my weight loss medication?
Only a clinician can advise whether a change may be appropriate. Our switching guide explains some of the factors our clinicians consider when someone is thinking about changing weight-management treatment. A clinician must review your current treatment, dose, timing, side effects and medical history before advising whether any change may be suitable.
Do not stop, combine or switch treatments unless advised by a clinician.
What do I do if I want to stop my weight loss treatment?
If you are considering stopping Foundayo for any reason, speak to your clinician before making any changes. Do not stop, restart or change your treatment unless advised to do so by your clinician.
But what happens once you’ve stopped taking your weight loss medication? This article outlines what you need to know to support sustainable weight management after your treatment and what to do if you want to stop treatment.
