What is Canesten 1% Anti Fungal Cream 20g?

Canesten Cream is used to treat fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athletes foot, fungal nappy rash and fungal sweat rash. It is also used to relieve irritation of the vulva external thrush or the end of the penis, which may be associated with thrush. The active substance in Canesten Cream is clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called imidazoles and is an antifungal agent which fights the cause of fungal skin infections. Canesten Cream should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected areas two or three times daily and rubbed in gently. A strip of cream 1/2 cm long is enough to treat an area of about the size of the hand.

How to use Canesten 1% Anti Fungal Cream 20g

Please read the enclosed leaflet carefully before use.

Wash your hands before and after applying the cream.
Apply a thin layer of Canesten Cream to the affected area 2–3 times daily, rubbing it in gently.
A strip of cream approximately 0.5 cm long is sufficient to treat an area about the size of a hand.
If the feet are infected, wash and dry them thoroughly—especially between the toes—before applying the cream.

Treatment Duration

Treatment usually requires a minimum of 2 weeks for thrush.
Other fungal skin conditions may require up to 4 weeks.
If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.

Before First Use
Pierce the tube seal by inverting the cap over the end of the tube and pressing firmly.

Additional Advice
If you have athlete’s foot, using an antifungal dusting powder alongside the cream may help. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for a suitable recommendation.
