Medicine Stock Checker

Our Medicine Stock Checker is a free pharmacy stock check tool you can use to see if we have your medicine in stock. When you search for the medicine you need, it’ll tell you whether we have it in stock, if it’s out of stock, or if it’s discontinued. We’ve launched this prescription stock checker tool to put you in greater control of your healthcare. You’ll have peace of mind before you order, knowing that you can get your prescription items when you need them. If we’re out of stock for any reason, it means you can check with other pharmacies to find one that does have your medicine available.

You can find the medicine you’re looking for by searching for it in the search bar. Type in the medicine name exactly as it appears on your prescription. You can check your prescribed medicines in your NHS app or look at the packaging of your current medication supply. You’ll then see the status of your medicine and whether it’s in stock, out of stock, or discontinued.

In stock: This item’s available to order today.

Out of stock: We don’t currently have this item in stock but it’s worth checking back soon. We’re working on a feature that will let us notify you by email when a medicine’s back in stock. We’ll let you know as soon as this is ready.

Discontinued: This item’s unavailable to order because the manufacturer has stopped making it. It’s unlikely that other pharmacies will have it in stock either. We’d recommend you contact your GP to discuss an alternative.

You have options if we don’t have the medicine you need in stock. You can either:  

• Contact local pharmacies near you to see if they have the medicine you need. 

• Order with us as usual and we will aim to get your items to you as soon as we can. We’ll keep you updated at each stage and if you need your items sooner, we can send you a code that means you can pick it up at a local pharmacy if you find one that has it in stock. 

If your usual item is out of stock but you know there’s a branded or generic version of the same medicine available, you could ask your GP to prescribe the alternative instead, however this is at your GP’s discretion. 

This feature is designed to give you greater control of your healthcare. A June 2024 patient survey by the BGMA found that 49% of patients had struggled to obtain their medicines from a high street pharmacy. The Medicine Stock Checker aims to provide peace of mind that you can get the medicines you need, when you need them by giving you the ability to check pharmacy stock online. Being able to check whether your medicine’s available before you order gives you the option to find it elsewhere in the unlikely event we’re out of stock.

You can use the Medicine Stock Checker any time. We’d recommend checking your medicine’s availability just before you’re ready to place your order. This will give a good indication of whether it’ll be ready for us to check and dispense when your GP’s approved your request. The tool will tell you the medicine’s availability at the time of checking. There’s a small chance that stock levels may change from the time you check to the time your GP approves your request ready for us to dispense.

You can use the Medicine Stock Checker if you’re already a Pharmacy2U patient, or if you’re thinking about becoming a patient and want to check we have your prescription items available.  

You can also check medicines for family members or other people whose prescriptions you manage.
