Eczema treatment Elocon Cream
What is Elocon cream?
Elocon cream belongs to a category of medications known as topical corticosteroids, specifically classified as a "potent corticosteroid." These medications are applied to the skin's surface to alleviate redness and itchiness associated with specific skin problems.
What is Elocon cream used to treat?
Elocon cream is used to alleviate redness and itchiness associated with specific skin problems such as psoriasis or dermatitis.
Psoriasis is a skin disease characterised by the development of itchy, scaly, pink patches on areas like the elbows, knees, scalp, and other parts of the body. Dermatitis, on the other hand, is a condition triggered by the skin's reaction to external agents, such as detergents, resulting in redness and itchiness.
Who can and cannot use medicines containing Elocon cream?
Avoid using Elocon if you experience:
An allergy (hypersensitivity) to mometasone furoate, any other ingredients of this medicine, or similar medications.
Other skin problems, particularly those like:
Rosacea (a facial skin condition)
Acne
Skin atrophy (thinning of the skin)
Dermatitis around the mouth
Genital itching
Nappy rash
Cold sores
Chickenpox
Shingles
Warts
Ulcerated skin
Wounds
Other skin infections
You should tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, before you start using Elocon.
What should I do if my eczema comes back?
If a recurrence occurs shortly after stopping treatment (within 2 weeks), refrain from restarting the cream without consulting your prescriber, unless specifically advised. If the condition has resolved and recurrence involves redness extending beyond the initial treatment area with a burning sensation, seek medical advice before resuming treatment.
