A range of health tests are available through the Online Doctor service, allowing you to carry out health tests at the convenience of your own home.

Some of these are blood tests and others are urine tests. The tests can be conducted without any embarrassment from the convenience of your own home. If you buy a blood test we will send you a blood collection kit so that you can collect a small sample of blood and send it off for testing. A leaflet explaining what to do is also available. It’s a simple painless process that takes less than 5 minutes.

When collecting the blood sample it's important to avoid squeezing the finger to get the blood to flow. This can cause haemolysis of the sample and make it useless for testing. Please follow the instructions on the leaflet provided carefully and remember the following tips:

  • Do not squeeze the finger when collecting the blood sample. A good firm prick from the lancet is needed, and then take your time
  • Warm the hand before sample collection, this can help a great deal
  • Use the little finger and gently milk the hand rather than squeezing the finger
  • Stand up when collecting the blood sample, as this can really assist blood flow.

Once we receive the results of your test back we will share these with you in the "Test Results" area of your account. The doctor will also be told when the results are available and will review them for you. If there is any cause for concern, he will contact you about what the test results mean and what to do next.

Our test service is provided by The Doctor Laboratory (TDL), which is a medically-led laboratory, established in 1987. It is the largest independent provider of clinical laboratory diagnostic services in the UK, widely used by GPs to process health tests.
