Vydura (rimegepant)
Vydura 75mg contains an active ingredient called rimegepant. The medicine comes in the form of a wafer you place under your tongue and it’s designed to relieve migraines. It can help prevent them too. The treatment is generally suitable for adults over 18 and is around 60% effective within two hours of a migraine starting.
What is Vydura (rimegepant)?
Vydura is a medicine designed for migraine relief. You can use it to treat migraines as they begin or as a preventative measure if you experience them regularly. Almost 60% of users feel relief within 2 hours of a migraine starting.
The treatment comes as a small oral wafer that dissolves underneath your tongue. Vydura contains the active ingredient rimegepant, which helps block pain signals associated with migraines.
How does Vydura 75mg work?
The active ingredient in Vydura is rimegepant. It works by blocking CGRP, a chemical in your body that triggers migraine pain signals.
You have two options with Vydura:
Take it when you feel a migraine starting to stop it from developing.
Use it every other day to prevent migraines if you get them frequently.
How effective is rimegepan?
Research shows rimegepant works well for both treating and preventing migraines.
In studies of rimegepant for migraine treatment:
59% of people felt pain relief within 2 hours
21% became completely pain-free within 2 hours
35% no longer experienced their most troublesome symptom within 2 hours
42% continued to feel relief between 2-48 hours after taking it
86% of people didn't need additional pain relief in the first 24 hours
For migraine prevention, a different study found:
People experienced 4.3 fewer monthly migraine days on average
Users saw a 50% reduction in their monthly migraine days
How to take Vydura
For treating a migraine attack, simply place one wafer under your tongue and let it dissolve. You don't need to take it with food or water and, if needed, you can take another wafer. But you must wait 24 hours before you do.
If you're using Vydura to prevent migraines, you can take one wafer every other day. Remember though, never take more than one Vydura wafer within a 24-hour period.
Vydura side effects
Although it’s possible to experience side effects when you use Vydura (rimegepant), it’s highly unlikely. The most common is nausea and a single clinical trial noted a small possibility of urinary tract infection (UTI) and dizziness. In very rare cases, Vydura might cause a rash or shortness of breath, which could indicate an allergic reaction.

Yes, you can. Over-the-counter options like paracetamol, ibuprofen, or a TENS migraine machine can help manage your symptoms when you’re also using Vydura.
If you experience nausea, antiemetics (anti-sickness medications) are safe to take.
Many people use triptans (like Rizatriptan or Sumatriptan) for migraines. However, do not take any triptan medications within 48 hours of using Vydura.
You can treat migraines with over-the-counter painkillers like paracetamol and ibuprofen. As we’ve mentioned you can also use a type of migraine treatment called triptans.
There is also a device called the TENs pain reliever for migraines, which is a drug-free option. The machine works by sending small electrical pulses through nerve endings that block the pain messages being sent to the brain.
