Cardiovascular disease causes over a quarter of deaths in the UK, and coronary heart disease remains one of the UK’s leading causes of premature death*, so helping your employees take proactive steps to protect their heart health can save lives. We’ve partnered with PocDoc to empower your teams to check their risk and take meaningful action to improve their wellbeing. The Healthy Heart Check is not a diagnosis and does not replace advice from a GP, pharmacist, or other healthcare professional.

Why heart health is important in the workplace

Long working hours, shift work, job strain and low workplace support are all associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Research shows that work‑related factors account for an estimated 10–20% of CVD deaths among working‑age adults.*

Stress is a major cause of sickness absence and is linked to physical health problems, including increased cardiovascular risk. In Great Britain, stress, depression or anxiety and musculoskeletal disorders accounted for the majority of days lost due to work-related ill health in 2024/25, 22.1 million and 7.1 million respectively.**

HSE estimates the cost of workplace injuries and new cases of work-related ill health from current working conditions was £22.9bn in 2023/24.**

Long‑term health conditions,  including those linked to stress and cardiovascular risk, contribute to rising economic inactivity. Over 1.9 million workers report work‑related ill health, many of whom require extended time away from work.**

The HSE confirms employers have a legal duty to manage work‑related stress, and improving factors such as workload, support and work‑life balance can reduce health risks and improve wellbeing.** This programme does not replace employers’ legal duties to assess and manage workplace health and safety risks.

PocDoc pioneers smartphone-based rapid health testing, designed to be quick and easy to use for eligible users with a compatible smartphone. You can find out more here.

You can order a PocDoc Healthy Heart Check kit directly from the website, where you can follow the on-screen instructions to place your order for free.

No, if you have a unique code to get the test kit for free, you’ll also get free delivery.

Once your Healthy Heart Check kit is ordered, it will usually be dispatched within 4-5 working days and arrive shortly after.

Sometimes, for various reasons, deliveries fail. It is usually because the address is incomplete or incorrect. If this happens to you, please do not worry. Contact the PocDoc team at [email protected] to arrange redelivery.

It should include:

• 1 x quick start guide - with instructions and your activation code

• 1 x alcohol wipe - to clean your finger (you must still wash your hands)

• 1 x lancet - to prick your finger

• 2 x pipettes - to transfer your blood onto the test chip. We provide two if you mix blood and air at the first attempt.

• 1 xpack of gauze - to stop your finger bleeding

• 1 x test chip - to put your blood on and run the test on the PocDoc app

We are very sorry if anything is broken or missing from your test kit. Please contact [email protected] as soon as possible. Information about your address or activation code may be required before a replacement is sent out. However, as soon as all the correct information has been logged, your replacement will be sent without delay.

If something is wrong with your test or you get an invalid result, for whatever reason, you will be offered a free replacement via the PocDoc app. You will get a notification in the top right hand corner of the screen. If this doesn’t show, please contact [email protected].

You can find your test activation code in two places. The first is on the top right corner of the quick start guide, and the second is on the back of the blue box above the barcode. If you can’t find it, please contact [email protected] with where you purchased or who supplied your test kit.

The free PocDoc app is only for self-test customers using the Healthy Heart Check kit.

The app can be downloaded from Google Play for Android devices and from the App Store for Apple iOS devices.

To get accurate results, you must use a compatible device that supports Android 11 or higher, and iOS 11 or higher. You might be able to download and install the app on incompatible devices, but your results may not be accurate. You can find a complete list of compatible devices here.

You should download the PocDoc app first and follow the step-by-step guide. The most important steps recommend that you drink a large glass of water up to 30 minutes before taking your test, and keep your hands warm.

There is a short video on the website that explains this for you. Unlike other cholesterol tests, you do not need to fast beforehand.

Yes, you need an internet connection. You can connect via WiFi or using mobile data.

Refunds only apply to purchased kits, not kits that are sent out free of charge. You can find detailed information about PocDoc’s returns and refunds policy here.

Once you have completed the test, follow the instructions to take a picture of your test. The app will process the images of your test chip, match them with the answers to the questions, and create your results.

The results will be available to see on the PocDoc app and will also be sent to you securely via email as a PDF document. The document will be password protected, and the password will be sent to the same email address, but separately for security reasons.

If you have any trouble opening your results PDF or can’t find either of the emails sent to you, please contact [email protected].

Yes, you will need to draw a small amount of blood for the lipid test included in the PocDoc Healthy Heart Test kit.

This aspect of the kit is designed to be as fuss-free as possible. The PocDoc Healthy Heart Check contains a single-use lancet designed to prick one of the first three fingers on your non-dominant hand. Do not use anything else to draw blood.

The PocDoc app has step-by-step video instructions you can follow. We advise that you read or watch these instructions before attempting your test. You can view the instructions on the Pharmacy2U website here.

We understand that customers require an accurate, quantified measurement of their cholesterol levels, so the test kit has been developed with this in mind. It has undergone a stringent clinical performance evaluation as part of the UKCA medical device registration process.

It is important to understand that cholesterol levels fluctuate, so you should expect to see different results each time you test. You can read more about fluctuations in levels here

If you have any questions or concerns about your test, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].

No. The Healthy Heart Check provides information about your cholesterol levels and an estimated heart health risk based on the test and the information you provide.

It does not diagnose heart disease and does not replace advice from your GP, pharmacist or another healthcare professional. Call 999 if you have chest pain, symptoms of a stroke, severe breathlessness or other emergency symptoms.

Every PocDoc Healthy Heart Check kit comes with a results guarantee. If you need a replacement test due to an invalid or failed result - a new test will be arranged for you. Please contact the team at [email protected].

No, PocDoc does not inform your GP, but we do recommend that you book the free pharmacist consultation that is available to you as part of this programme. You can discuss your results with them, and you can agree to allow the pharmacist to notify your GP, but only at your request.

If you have successfully received your PocDoc Healthy Heart Check results, but are struggling to understand them, we recommend booking your free pharmacist appointment via the app. The pharmacist can explain the results in detail, answer any questions you may have, whether about the test, medicines or anything else heart health-related, and offer you advice on adopting heart-healthy habits.

If you’re still having trouble understanding your results, you can find more information on what they mean here. For medical advice, please contact your GP or a healthcare professional.

Once you have taken your test, you will see a calendar section in the app where you can book your pharmacist appointment. If needed, you can also modify, rearrange, or cancel your appointment within the same area of the app

We recommend taking the test as soon as possible after receiving it. The tests do have an expiry date. The expiry date can be found inside the box next to the hourglass symbol. It is shown in the format YYYY-MM-DD. Do not use the test after the expiry date, as the accuracy of your results cannot be guaranteed.

No. Your individual test results and personal health information will not be shared with your employer.

If Pharmacy2U or PocDoc provides reporting to a participating workplace, this will only be in an aggregated form and will not identify individual employees. Participation is voluntary.

The Healthy Hearts Workplace Programme is available to participating organisations and eligible employees. The Healthy Heart Check is provided through PocDoc and requires employees to use a compatible smartphone and the PocDoc app. The check provides cholesterol results and an estimated heart age and 10‑year cardiovascular risk based on the test result and information provided. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace advice from a GP, pharmacist or other healthcare professional.

Registration of interest is for employer programme enquiries only and does not enrol employees into the programme. Employee participation is voluntary. Individual test results and personal health information will not be shared with the employer. Where programme reporting is provided to a participating employer, it will be aggregated and non‑identifying. Pharmacy2U and PocDoc will process personal information in line with their respective privacy notices.
