What is Skinoren?

Skinoren is a prescription-only cream, containing the active ingredient azelaic acid. It effectively treats acne on the face, back, and chest. This topical cream not only inhibits the growth of acne-causing bacteria but also prevents pore clogging, a common factor in spot formation.  

Additionally, Skinoren cream proves beneficial in addressing acne scars and can also be used to treat rosacea and dark spots, providing a comprehensive solution for various skin concerns.

What is Skinoren used to treat?

Skinoren is primarily used to treat acne vulgaris, a common skin condition characterised by the formation of pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. It is also used for the treatment of rosacea, a chronic skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels on the face.

Who can and cannot use Skinoren?

Skinoren cream might not be suitable for everyone, as specific conditions or medications could interact with it, potentially reducing its effectiveness or posing risks. 

Skinoren cream may not be suitable if you are: 

  • pregnant or breastfeeding 

  • allergic to any of its ingredients 

  • asthmatic 

It's essential to inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking before starting treatment with Skinoren cream.

How to apply Skinoren cream?

Apply Skinoren cream twice daily, in the morning and evening, unless otherwise advised by your doctor. If you have particularly sensitive skin, limit application to the evening during the first week of treatment, moving to twice daily thereafter. The quantity of cream required depends on the affected area's size. As a general reference, treating your entire face typically requires around 2.5cm (0.5g) of cream, adjusting the amount accordingly for the back or chest.
