Diabetes affects three million people in the UK and this looks set to increase to five million by 2025.
Over the next decade, it is estimated that around 400 people a day will be diagnosed with diabetes – so during your lunch hour today, as many as 17 people could find out they have the condition.
The Diabetes UK charity is organising lots of events this week to raise awareness and make more people aware of the symptoms, causes and support available.
It’s important of course for people with diabetes and other long-term conditions to keep on track with vital medication. Some find that our online and mail order NHS repeat prescription service is a useful way to organise their medications – including Marian and Keith Thomas (pictured above) from Northampton.
Marian, who has Type 2 diabetes and also back problems, said: “With diabetes, it’s very important for me to take my drugs regularly, and the service ensures that I never run out.”
The couple, who are active in their retirement, found it hard to collect prescriptions from their GP surgery. Twice-retired Marian, who is now a lay minister, says: “We travel the waterways quite a lot, so access to medication would be difficult without Pharmacy2U, so it is really convenient for us.”
