With lockdown restrictions gradually easing, for many of us this brings the prospect of activities we can enjoy once again and allows us to spend time with friends and family we may not have seen in a while. Although this is one step closer to lockdown ending, it doesn’t mean that the fight with coronavirus is over and we must still all be vigilant and careful. Here we share some things you can do to take care and stay safe as we start to spend more time outside of the home.
Follow government guidelines
As restrictions are gradually lifted, it is important that we follow the Government guidance put in place at each stage. If not, this could lead to a spike in COVID-19 cases, which could lead to more deaths and even more strain on the NHS. This could also mean the next stage of easing lockdown restrictions would be delayed.
More information on government guidance for this stage of lockdown restrictions can be found here.
The COVID-19 vaccines are successfully being rolled out by the NHS and by having these vaccinations you are significantly reducing your chances of being seriously ill if you caught coronavirus. When you are eligible for your vaccine, the NHS will invite you to book your vaccination through their national booking system or you can book through your GP. Vaccinating as many people as possible will help to save lives, protect the NHS and help us get back to a more normal life.
You can find more information on eligibility for Covid-19 vaccinations here.

Continue with hygiene routines
You should continue to wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds. Try to do this as soon as you return home in order to kill any bacteria you may have touched while out and about. It’s also a good idea to take hand sanitiser out with you to use when washing your hands isn’t possible.
Still keep at a safe distance
As we get to see more of our friends and family, you should still try and stick to social distancing measures and keep a safe 2m distance from others where possible. It is also important to not meet up with more people than permitted by government guidelines.
Get tested for COVID-19
In order to reduce the spread of COVID-19, you should get tested right away if you show any symptoms of coronavirus. Lateral flow tests are also available for people who show no symptoms and the results are given within 30 minutes. 1 in 3 people who have coronavirus show no symptoms, so lateral flows tests help to prevent the spread of the virus by people who may not have known they were infected.
You can find more information on getting test for COVID-19 and the type of tests available here.
