Veterinary pharmacy is about the safeguarding of animal welfare, however there are links between the health of a pet and the health of its owner. Pharmacists are well placed to support the care of both.

It’s important to recognise that a 2003 Competition Commission inquiry into vets prescribing and supplying medicines led to government policy to better include pharmacy. As pharmacy has historically been focused on the supply of human medicines, the area remains relatively new within the pharmacy industry.
