What is Benadryl?
Benadryl is the brand name for a group of products used to treat the symptoms of allergy, including; sneezing, runny nose, itching, watery eyes, and rashes.
Benadryl is also used to suppress coughs, to treat motion sickness and to induce sleep.
Benadryl is available in capsule, tablet and nasal spray form for adults, and an oral solution for children.
How does Benadryl work?
Many of the Benadryl products are antihistamines which contain the active ingredient diphenhydramine, this works by blocking the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in the body.
What are the side effects of Benadryl?
Side effects that may occur when taking Benadryl include; sleepiness and fatigue, headache, dry mouth, and difficulty in urinating, although these may vary with each product.
