Aspirin Dispersible tablets help to prevent heart attacks and strokes in people who have previously suffered from these conditions or who have undergone by-pass surgery. Do not take if allergic to any of the ingredients or if you suffer from asthma, have a stomach ulcer, a history of stomach ulcers or indigestion, or are taking blood thinning drugs. Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant and do not take if you are breast-feeding.
The tablets should be dispersed in a glass of water before taking. The advice of a doctor should be sought before commencing therapy for the first time. The usual dosage for long term use is 1 or 2 tablets once daily. In some circumstances a higher dose may be used on the advice of a doctor.
Each tablet contains 75mg Aspirin as the active ingredient. The tablet also contains starch, Sodium Saccharin, Lactose, Citric Acid, Calcium Carbonate, Talc and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.
Before commencing long term use of Aspirin you should consult your doctor who will advise you on the relative benefits versus the risks of this therapy. You should not use Dispersible Aspirin tablets: if you are allergic to Aspirin or similar medicines, if you are allergic to lactose or any of the other ingredients, if you suffer from gout, if you have a stomach ulcer or have had problems with ulcers in the past, if you suffer from haemophilia or any other bleeding condition or you are taking anti-coagulant medication, if you are in the last stages of pregnancy, or are breast feeding. There is possible association between Aspirin and Reye?s Syndrome when given to children. Reye?s syndrome is a very rare disease, which can be fatal. For this reason aspirin should not be given to children aged under 16 years, unless on the advice of a doctor. Check with your doctor before taking if: you have liver or kidney disease, you suffer from asthma, you are suffering from dehydration (the symptoms of which are a persistent feeling of thirst). You should talk to your doctor before taking aspirin if you have been prescribed any medicines. Particularly, Metoclopramide (for sickness and digestive disorders), Heparin, Warfarin or Nicoumalone which prevent blood clots. Corticosteroids e.g hydrocortisone (which can be used for arthritis, asthma and inflammatory conditions). Spironolactone (a diuretic/water tablet). Methotrexate (for psoriasis, arthritis or tumours). Antacids for indigestion. Probenecid or sulphinpyrazone for gout. Acetazolamide for glaucoma. You should also consult your doctor if you have been told that you have an intolerance to some sugars. Aspirin can cause stomach upsets and indigestion. If used too often it may even cause stomach ulcers and bleeding form the stomach. Nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, hearing disturbances, dizziness, mental confusion and blood disorders have been reported. Skin reactions, breathlessness, wheezing and other allergic symptoms may occur rarely.
